A Pin for the Butterfly

This film, made by Channel Four, featured Hugh in a dramatic role. The story takes place in Czechoslovakia in the 1950s. It centers around an imaginative 7-year-old girl, Maruschka (Florence Hoath) whose family is caught up in political turmoil; Hugh plays her uncle who wants to escape to America but who becomes embroiled with anti-Stalinist dissidents. Ian Bannen, Joan Plowright and Imogen Stubbs co-starred. A Pin for the Butterfly premiered at the Leeds Film Festival in October 1995. It was shown on Channel Four in February 1996.
